Greenfields Community Group

Greenfields Community Group is an ‘Unincorporated Association’.

The Group was established in 2017 and the current Chair and Committee have been in-post since 2023.

Many community groups are run entirely by volunteers, to improve their local neighbourhoods or undertake campaigns to benefit local people and places.

GCG has always been simply a group of people wishing to get together to organise the protection and development of our local park.

We don’t employ staff or lease premises and none of the volunteers are paid.
We are an unincorporated association with volunteers and we carry out activities to improve our local park, working to a constitution (copy above) which sets out the rules by which we operate.
The volunteer committee are determined to support and develop the original purpose for Greenfields Park when it was left in trust for the 'health and recreation' of the local community.
This purpose is still as relevant today as when the benefactor bequeathed the land to the community.

In the early years of the last century, parks provided urban areas with green refuge and places for health and recreation.

In today's busy world the science tells us that the mental and physical health benefits of these increasingly precious green spaces are as important as they were a hundred years ago.
We also hope to be able to create learning opportunities about protecting wildlife and the environment and we are keen to protect and create the bio diverse habitats in the park.  We will do this using native plants and trees, sustainable and/or recycled materials and buying from local sources to reduce the carbon footprint.

The Greenfields Community Group will:

  • Adhere to the original Park

  • Bring local people together to benefit from the health asset of a neighbourhood park and help safeguard this park for future generations

  • Represent Greenfields Community to local councils and other Park Associations

  • Maintain regular contact with Shrewsbury Town Council (owners of the land) and help enable the full area of parkland to be restored to public access, building a local vision for integrating the newly restored land into the existing parkland

  • Fundraise for general improvements to Greenfields Park

  • Manage communications, update the website and the Park Noticeboard to keep people informed

  • Communicate with stakeholders to promote the community vision for the parkland

  • Join county and national associations to support and engage with other community park groups
